Possibly the best-quality fleam that I have bought, freshly arrived from an auction win. Cow horn scales over a brass liner, with three blades, each marked WEBSTER and G (crown) R, and a boiled leather case.
Described in the auction blurb as a ‘20th century cased bleeding knife’, I am absolutely certain that GR in this case is GR III or GR IV (i.e. early 1880s) rather than GR V or GR VI (early 1900s). William Webster was a Master Cutler in the 1850s.
The fleam came with a letter stating that this item came from a veterinary practice in Lincolnshire, England, and was still in use just prior to WW2.
